what number out of 1100?

is it possible to work out what number my cappo is against the 1100 or so produced for the uk market . What i'd like to find out is how close my N reg is to the last one manufactured for the uk .

Issue 6 of "The Latest SCORE" had an article on the chassis numbers.

Lowest number: 100001
Highest number: 101371

NB - they weren't necessarily registered in the same order as the chassis number

To my best knowledge, all the UK Cappos are from a single year's production, though they were sold here over a period of about 3 years.

If this is correct, then the chassis number will tell you nothing more than the vehicle's time of manufacture relative to other UK Cappos. It is entirely possible that, with many dealers holding stock, sales to the public were no better than random within range of chassis numbers.

A far better assessment of a Cappo's "age" would come from a complete service history, indicating when the car was first sold.

Out of interest, the UK Cappos could have been made in as little as about 5 weeks, based on the following data:

Production rate to meet initial sales target: 1000 per month
Number of vehicles to UK/Europe: 1182

From Barry's chassis numbers above, you can see that the UK production was just about contiguous. There are only some 189 chassis numbers in the range which are not accounted for in the UK's 1182.

The production rate in 1992/3 was probably nearer to half of the planned rate, to match the rate of sales on the Japan home market at that time. It therefore seems highly likely that all UK Cappos were produced in about 12 weeks or less.
