Tonneau fixings

I have a tonneau cover but no fixings on the car.

I understand the fixing kit is no longer available.

Has anyone got a kit or any fixings they would like to sell?

Does anyone know the thread diameter and length for the 4 (I think they are tenax fasteners?) on the dashboard at the bottom of the windscreen?

Cheers

I used the woodscrew ones - I think they screw into predrilled plastic blocks, or something like that, rather than tapped holes in metal. Overall length 22mm, threaded length 14mm, 8mm socket. These look about right.

The difficult thing is making the "plates" which are fixed between the door mirrors and the door, and carry the "male" press stud fittings. Mine are made from a stiffish plastic. It needs to be thin to fit under the mirror interface. The originals are metal sheet, finished in undercoat and required painting. As you say, unobtainable, so you have to make your own. The position of the fitting, partially over the rubber of the quarter light, precludes fitting it to the door's sheet metal.

You can see the paint flaked because my plastic plate is too flexible :( Something like the plastic used for printed circuit boards might be better.

Warning: The plastic shell you have to prise away to remove the mirror unit is very brittle. You can see I had to search for a replacement by the colour - I could only get a Champagne Silver one, whereas the car is Mercury Silver.

There are some helpful posts on the site - search under "tonneau". The Manuals section has the fitting instructions.

Thanks for the info Ian.

Any chance of a picture of your studs as fitted on yours please?

I have ordered both self tapping and threaded studs from ebay, so will try them to see which fit best

I have got the fitting instructions from the manuals section.

I am going to try and fabricate the wing mirror fitting, but may try and come up with another solution to fitting the tonneau sides.

Cheers

Rob

Both shown are leftside.

Just to the left of the LH tweeter.

To the left of the instrument console.

Lens used is 50mm Minolta AF Macro, if anyone is interested

If you do do something different for the sides, it would be interesting to see.

Thanks Ian

Just received the studs and they look identical to yours (I bought them from a marine parts supplier) going to fit them next week.

I am going to try and get working drawings of the external mirror fittings from Suzuki Japan, if I obtain them, will research materials and try and fabricate some as oem, if not will work on alternative way of fitting tonneau sides.

Cheers

Rob

Rob,

Our webmaster, Adrian Furniss (web@score.org.uk), has found his pattern of the mirror fitting, and will post you a copy, if you email him your current address. As you joined 5 years ago, I'm not sure the one I have is current, so please cc me.

I realised when the email bounced back last night.
