SCORE Chat Room

Most of the bugs have been ironed out of the chat system now and it has been moved to the top of the page.

The bottom of the page position was always a temporary measure while testing/developing and in the absence of any other suggestions it will now stay at the top of the page. There is an argument for having it as a separate column down either the right or left side of the existing message board but I know a few of you have small screens with a low resolution and this would make reading the message board less easy. While it is at the top of the page it will also be easier for you to see if other people are chatting and join in.

If you haven't tried it yet, it's fairly self explanatory and much easier for you to just dive in rather than wade through a load of instructions anyway.

Here are a few quick things to be aware of though.
  • Non-members will not see the chat room in any form. You can always log out to see the Message Board as a non SCORE member will see it.
  • If you just want to read what other people are saying you can just click on the 'Click here to refresh this chatbox' link on the main index page and just that small chatbox will be refreshed (or it will also be refreshed whenever the whole page is reloaded)
  • If you want to join in and chat with someone click on the 'Click Here To Start Chatting' link and a new small chat window will open up. This will allow you to see more than the 5-6 lines without scrolling and also will automatically be refreshed every 10 seconds and also allow you to continue browsing the rest of the site and reading the Message Board.
  • A small few people have browsers that are not compatible with the chat system - if this is the case you will see nothing and the rest of the Message Board will continue to function as before.
  • The Message Board system for logging who is on-line is separate from the chat system and so if you are chatting for more than 5 mins your name might disappear from the 'These SCORE members are on-line now:' section in the same way that it will if you take more than 5 mins to compose a message.
